A two-month voyage around the Land Down Under was terminated following the death of an older female passenger who was stranded by the vessel on a isolated island.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but broke off from the excursion for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the personnel became aware the woman was not present.

A large-scale search operation found her person the next day.

Officials are investigating the tragedy, in coordination with police and the official investigator.

Head of the voyage organizer announced that guests and personnel on the ship were notified that the continuation of the voyage had been called off due to the "sad loss and prior mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that guests would be provided a full refund, and said the organization was working "to arrange the travel back of the passengers via private aircraft".

Authorities also released an updated announcement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Captain" banning any additional guests from entering the liner.

The official said that they would inspect the liner in the port city upon its return.

Timeline of Events

The ship first departed the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the expedition at the point of the elderly woman's passing. The remote island was the first stop on the voyage.

Guests on the vessel - who generally pay tens of thousands of dollars to join the cruise - were taken there for a shore visit with the possibility of walking or snorkelling.

Family Response

The daughter of the victim said that her relatives was "shocked and grieved that the vessel left the island after an planned outing without my mum".

Via her announcement, she described her mother as an "active 80-year-old" who was a participant of a hiking organization.

"Based on limited facts we have been told, it seems that there was a failure of responsibility and common sense," she stated.

She further stated that she wished the investigation would be able to determine what "the organization should have done that might have preserved Mum's being".

"According to reports from the authorities that it was a extremely warm period, and mum took sick on the uphill trek," she explained.

"Officials suggested her to return, unescorted. Then the boat sailed away, seemingly without doing a headcount.

"At some stage in that chain of events, or shortly after, she passed away, alone."

Operator Position

In a statement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the operator was "working closely with authorities to aid their examination".

Occurrences such as this are rare, and liners have protocols to document which passengers are embarking or disembarking, according to industry experts.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] onboard just isn't an choice," an authority stated.
